About Urea

Urea (CO(NH₂)₂) is the most widely used solid nitrogen fertilizer in the world, accounting for more than half of global nitrogen fertilizer consumption. With a nitrogen content of 46%, it delivers the highest concentration of nitrogen among common solid fertilizers, making it highly cost-effective for agricultural applications. Urea is produced commercially through the reaction of ammonia and carbon dioxide at high pressure and temperature, a process refined over decades to maximize yield and energy efficiency.

In agriculture, urea is applied to a broad range of crops including cereals, oilseeds, cotton, sugarcane, and horticultural produce. It can be broadcast on the soil surface, incorporated into the soil, or dissolved in water for fertigation. Granular urea, with particle sizes of 2-4mm, is preferred for mechanical spreading due to its uniform distribution characteristics, while prilled urea (1-2mm) is commonly used where manual application or blending with other fertilizers is required. Proper application timing and soil incorporation help minimize nitrogen loss through volatilization.

Beyond agriculture, urea serves important industrial purposes. It is a key raw material in the production of urea-formaldehyde resins used in adhesives, particleboard, and plywood manufacturing. Urea is also the primary ingredient in Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), marketed as AdBlue in Europe, which reduces nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. Additionally, urea finds application in livestock feed as a non-protein nitrogen supplement for ruminant animals.

Intentions Institute Inc. sources urea from established production regions including the Middle East, China, Russia, and Egypt. Our supply chain accommodates both containerized shipments in 50kg bags and bulk vessel deliveries, enabling us to serve agricultural distributors, fertilizer blenders, and industrial buyers with the volumes and logistics they require.
